ごあいさつ
「イサム・ノグチと北大路魯山人」展を開催いたします。

20世紀を代表する石の彫刻家イサム・ノグチ(1904, ロサンジェルスー1988, ニューヨーク)は、モニュメント,庭や公園などの環境設計,家具や照明のインテリアから舞台美術までの幅広い活動を行 った, 極めてユニークな空間デザイナーでもありました。

近年ますますその名をポピュラーなものにしている北大路魯山人 (1883, 京都一1959, 鎌倉)も、 書家、篆刻家として出発しながら、食を中心とした生活環境の全体を、斬新な審美家としての眼でとらえ直し,陶磁器,漆器, 絵画をはじめインテリアまでをデザインした、異色の総合芸術家でした。

1950年代初めに来日したノグチは北鎌倉の魯山人邸,窯場に仮住いして、土着的なものに触発さ れた、陶器による彫刻や,「あかり」をはじめとした「和風のデザイン」を多く残しました。また外遊を挟んで, 魯山人の晩年は、より闊達で自在な、大胆な造形に向かいます。日米の混血として、また自由でコスモポリタンな精神で,単一なジャンルを超えて地球環境をひとつの大きなデザインの個性に作り変えたノグチ。伝統工芸の技術や古陶磁の価値を自由自在に吸収しながら、そのモダンな再生に成功した独創の男,魯山人。

「美意識と空間」。1950年代初めの出会いを中心に、ふたつの偉大な個性のぶつかりあいを演出し、傑出した仕事とその背後にある美意識との関係を探ります。西欧と東洋,伝統の再創造、技術と感性、芸術ジャンルの広がり、そして芸術家の個性とは何かといった、今日の日本人にとって最も深い課題をそこから感じとりたいと願います。

"Isamu Noguchi and Rosanjin Kitaoji" exhibition will be held.

Isamu Noguchi (1904, Los Angeles 1988, New York), one of the leading stone sculptors of the 20th century, has engaged in a wide range of activities, from environmental design of monuments, gardens and parks, interiors of furniture and lighting to stage art. He was also a very unique space designer.

Rosanjin Kitaoji (1883, Kyoto Ichi 1959, Kamakura), whose name has become more and more popular in recent years, also started out as a calligrapher and seal carving artist, and was a novel aesthetic artist who took the whole living environment centered on food. He was a unique general artist who designed ceramics, lacquerware, paintings, and even the interior.

The Noguchi came to Japan in the early 1950s Rosanjin House of North Kamakura, with temporary residence in kilns, was inspired by the indigenous ones, and sculptures by the pottery,"Akari"was, including the "Design of Japanese-style" I left a lot. In addition, Rosanjin's later years will be more open and flexible, with a bold outing. As a mixed race of Japan and the United States, and with a free and cosmopolitan spirit, Noguchi has transformed the global environment into one big design individuality that transcends a single genre. "Beauty and space". Focusing on the encounters of the early 1950s, the two great personalities collide and explore the relationship between outstanding work and the aesthetics behind it. Western Europe and the Orient, tradition of re-creation, technology andsensitivities,the spread of the art genre, and the individuality of the artists were saying something,most profound for today'splease want to perceive from them thechallengesJapanese.
